Homeschool Auditions Wednesday

We are offering two plays this year for homeschoolers (three if there's enough interest).

Auditions are at noon on Wednesday, Sept 1, for Brothers Grimm, all mixed up. (rehearsals will run noon - three)

Rehearsals begin Thursday morning (no audition required) for Christmas County Spelling Bee.

We are considering a third show if interest is overwhelming: Comic Book Artist

Homeschool classes this year are once again from 10-11:30 am, and are divided into two groups.

Homeschool End of Year Showcase

The Homeschool Class will conclude the semester with a family showcase on Wednesday, April 28th. Students should arrive by 10:00 am as usual. The showcase will be at 11:00 am, and will be followed by a brief reception.

Some kids have asked what they should wear. Black or dark pants would be best if you have them, but don't go shopping! Wear a solid color shirt if you have one.

Assistance for 101 Dalmatians

101 Dalmatian Parents: we need help in the following areas:

We need a parent backstage during each rehearsal on Tuesday and Wednesday, and during each show on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This is to help kids be quiet, but also to assist with some simple but quick ostume changes.

If there is a parent who would like to bring a simple healthy snack each day this week, that would be welcome, too! Please remember not to include nuts in the snack.

This is the week that all their hard work pays off! It's hard work, but so much fun!

This week's homework

Acting I: Think up a scene that might start with "OOoo, I have a bad feeling about this..." and end up with "Wow, wow, wow! Thank you! I can't believe all these wonderful things are happening to me!" While you're working on it, think of the W's.... Who are you? Where are you? What are you doing? What do you want? Why do you want it? What do you have to do to get it?

Act II: Write up a scene using four methods of persuasion in this order: Ask, Plead, Bribe, Threaten. Make sure that what you want is significant enough to have some high stakes involved. Almost life and death important.

101 Dalmatians Performances

101 Dalmatians will perform on Thursday, April 15, through Saturday, April 17, at 2:00 pm.

Friday's and Saturday's performances are open to the general public and all tickets are $5.00.

We are adding a special homeschool performance on Thursday, April 15, with $2.00 tickets! Tell your homeschool friends to go to: http://www.houstonfac.com/id41.html to buy their tickets for the Homeschool performance.

101 Dalmatians

101 Dalmatian Puppies will stay until 3pm this Wednesday, and probably the rest of the Wednesday rehearsals. Also, we will begin fitting costumes this coming Wednesday, beginning with the "puppies" and other dogs. Puppies will start putting spots on their costumes this week, too.

We have two performances for sure here at the rehearsal studio: April 16 and 17 at 2:00 pm. Children will arrive about noon on those days. They will also have some other rehearsals earlier that week, and I am trying to get a performance at the public library that week as well. At this point, please reserve 12-3 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 13-17.

101 Dalmatians

January 27

Acting I class will be working on observation and memory.

Acting II class will continue to work on classic paintings, and will use those characteristics in other scenes as well, adding use of all five senses. Please continue to think about your paintings. If you haven't done this lesson yet, it really only takes about 10 minutes to think through the following:
What is the scene about, Who am I, Where am I, What am I doing, What do I want, Why do I want it, and What do I have to do to get it?

FOOD ALLERGIES

One of our home school students has a severe nut allergy. It is very important that all parents know that we have a child with a severe nut allergy, and for that reason PLEASE do not bring lunches or snacks that have nuts of any kind. If you eat nuts before class (peanut butter, banana nut muffins, etc) before class, please wash hands and brush teeth.

If your child as any other allergy we should be aware of, please remind us on Wednesday.

Beauty and Beast Solos

For those of you interested in auditioning for solos in the song "Beauty and the Beast," we will have auditions in class on Wednesday, January 27 during music. Work on the song at home, and we will have auditions together in class. The solos will be broken up as listed below. Guys will more than likely get the lower solos, and girls the higher solos. Two different youtube clips to practice with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yJnvv_R2rk&feature=related, & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGSqt2fD4Xo
Solo 1: Tale as old as time. True as it can be.
Solo 2: Barely even friends. Then somebody bends, unexpectedly.
Solo 3: Just a little change. Small to say the least.
Solo 4: Both a little scared. Neither one prepared.
All: Beauty and the Beast
All: Ever just the same. Ever a surprise. Ever as before, ever just as sure, as the sun will rise.
Solo 5: Tale as old as time. Tune as old as song.
Solo 6: Bittersweet and strange. Finding you can change. Learning you were wrong.
Solo 7: Certain as the sun. Rising in the East.
All: Tale as old as time. Song as old as rhyme, Beauty and the Beast.
Solo 8: Tale as old as time.
Solo 9: Song as old as rhyme.
All: Beauty and the Beast.
